JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — John Hall, director of the Mississippi Center for Obesity Research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, has been named professor of the year by the Southeastern Conference.
Hall received the honor Wednesday during an event in Jackson. Hall is the third professor of the year honoree by the SEC. It is considered the conference's highest academic honor. Hall will receive a $20,000 honorarium and be recognized at the conference's spring meeting.
Hall came to Mississippi almost 40 years ago after receiving a doctorate in physiology from Michigan State University. He and former Physiology Chairman Authur Guyton are co-authors of the Textbook of Medical Physiology, one of the country's most widely used medical textbooks.
Hall was selected from among the 50,000 faculty members at the 14 SEC schools.
