WASHINGTON (AP) — A Chinese man previously accused of supplying Iran's ballistic missile program has been charged in the United States with millions of dollars in illegal financial transactions.
The Justice Department on Tuesday announced charges of wire fraud and other crimes against Li Fangwei, who is also known as Karl Lee.
Authorities say they've seized nearly $7 million used by front companies with which he was affiliated.
Li was previously sanctioned by the U.S. government for supplying banned items to Iran. Prosecutors say he evaded those sanctions by setting up front companies through which he did millions in business.
Li is a fugitive currently living in China. The State Department has issued a $5 million reward for information leading to his arrest.
It was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer.
