COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The wife of a former Ohio deputy treasurer sought on an arrest warrant alleges he wanted a fake birth certificate from Pakistan for a passport.
Samar Ahmad (sah-MER' ah-MED') alleges her husband, Amer Ahmad (ah-MEER' ah-MED'), became irate and threatened to hurt her when she refused.
Her request for a protective order says she was afraid he would kidnap their children and take them to Pakistan. The request was filed in Cook County Circuit Court in Chicago on Thursday.
Prosecutors issued a warrant for Amer Ahmad on Friday after receiving information that he violated terms of his release in a federal case. He resigned as Chicago's comptroller last year and later pleaded guilty to charges in a kickback scheme.
A message seeking comment was left Monday for his attorney.
