Vermont part of DEA's drug take-back day

MORRISVILLE, Vt. (AP) — Communities across Vermont are participating in the federal Drug Enforcement Administration's drug take-back day.

The Saturday event is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Authorities will be collecting potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs that will be destroyed after collection.

The effort is designed to protect against medications from being stolen, abused or accidentally ingested and to ensure that drugs don't contaminate the water supply, which can happen when they are disposed of down the sink or toilet.

People can find the nearest collection site by visiting and clicking on the "Got Drugs?" icon.
