Ohio man arrested in bomb-threats probe

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities investigating a series of telephoned bomb threats to schools in northwestern Ohio have arrested a man on a charge of inducing panic.

An Ottawa County jail official in Port Clinton said that 22-year-old Charles Tingler, of Oak Harbor, remained in jail Saturday. It could not be determined immediately whether Tingler has an attorney.

Authorities say the fake calls to schools and police departments occurred this month in Ottawa, Sandusky, Erie and Lucas counties.

Agent Donald St. Clair of the Ottawa County Drug Task Force told reporters Friday that the charge related to false threats April 21 to Oak Harbor schools. St. Clair says Tingler told police the calls were pranks that went too far. Ottawa County's prosecutor says more charges are likely.

Tingler is scheduled for a hearing Monday
