Sanford breast cancer center to be ready by 2017

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Dakotas-based Sanford Health has issued a more detailed timeline for the multimillion-dollar breast cancer facility it's planning in Sioux Falls.

The Argus Leader reports (http://argusne.ws/1mLkcTy) Sanford USD Medical Center President Paul Hanson says construction will start by October on the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Center, and it will open by January 2017.

The 48,000-square foot building will cost between $25 million and $30 million. It was part of a 2011 announcement in which philanthropist T. Denny Sanford pledged to give the health system bearing his name $100 million to find a cure for breast cancer. His mother, Edith, died of the disease.

Sanford Health is based in Sioux Falls and in Fargo, N.D., where it operates the Roger Maris Cancer Center. Sanford also plans to expand that facility by 2017.
