LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael King wants the world to share his love for boxing, and the television mogul is putting on a show to make it happen.
The executive who brought "Wheel of Fortune" and "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to national audiences has spent the last few years trying to develop amateur fighters into champions.
After mixed success, he's moving aggressively into professional promotion with a Hollywood flair.
King is staging his first event at a converted airplane hangar in Santa Monica on Wednesday night, with actor Kevin Pollak hosting a show mixing comedy with five fights.
His fighters aren't famous in the U.S., but King is confident fans will be enthralled by well-matched bouts between fighters who will mature before their eyes.
King says he is dedicated to patiently changing the sport.
