Woman fined in Harrison Co. rabbit seizure case

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A Harrison County woman has been fined $900 after pleading guilty to animal cruelty in a rabbit seizure case.

Animal control officers seized 160 rabbits from 57-year-old Donna Michelle Baker's residence in Wallace on April 4.

The Exponent Telegram (http://bit.ly/QkxSXB ) reports that Baker pleaded guilty Friday in magistrate court to three counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.

In addition to the fine, Magistrate Frank DeMarco ordered Baker to have no pets or contact with animals for the next five years.

County humane officer Lt. Greg Scolapio says the rabbits were removed from the residence due to what he called deplorable conditions.

He says Baker voluntarily surrendered the rabbits. All of the rabbits have been placed with individuals or private rescue groups.
