Obamas, friends take in dinner in New York City,

NEW YORK (AP) — President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are enjoying a rare night out in New York City, dining with friends at an Italian trattoria at the high-end Gramercy Park Hotel.

They are joined by poet Elizabeth Alexander, who read at Obama's 2009 inauguration, Chicago friends Kelly and Andrew Dibble, senior White House aide Valerie Jarrett and sportscaster and former NFL wide receiver Ahmad Rashad. Obama and Rashad played golf last month during an Obama family vacation in Florida.

The first couple was in New York Friday for Al Sharpton's National Action Network conference, where the president spoke.
