ATLANTA (AP) — The FBI says a North Carolina man missing for days was the target of a kidnapping plot and has been rescued from an Atlanta apartment complex.
FBI spokeswoman Shelley Lynch says Frank Arthur Janssen is safe after a team rescued him minutes before midnight Wednesday from the complex in the southeast part of the city.
Thursday morning, residents described a loud boom that had startled them. Two mangled, charred doors lay in a courtyard area.
The FBI says Janssen was reported missing April 5 from his Wake Forest home. No one answered the door at a house address listed for him in a quiet, upscale subdivision.
Lynch says she had no immediate details about the rescue operation, a motive or any arrests. She says Janssen was being reunited with his family.
