MAGNOLIA, Miss. (AP) — Beacham Memorial Hospital has shuttered its outpatient clinic in Osyka but officials say the main medical center in Magnolia is not closing for now.
Beacham administrator Emmett Hennessey tells the Enterprise-Journal (http://bit.ly/1kuYumD ) shutting down the Osyka clinic Monday resulted in three layoffs. At Beacham, Hennessey says two or three employees are voluntarily leaving and the remaining staff of about 100 will work fewer hours.
Beacham chief of staff Dr. Luke Lampton says at least 85 percent of the hospital's patients qualify for Medicare and a reduction in reimbursements is a major financial hit.
Lampton says there are ongoing discussions with local leaders, lawmakers and hospital officials at other facilities in Mississippi to find a new funding method for private, not-for-profits like Beacham — whether through partnerships, grants, loans or donations.
