LAS VEGAS (AP) — Phoenix and Columbus, Ohio have been eliminated as possible sites for the 2016 Republican National Convention.
Las Vegas remains an early leader. Other finalists include Denver, Dallas, Kansas City, Mo., and two other cities in Ohio — Cleveland and Cincinnati.
The Republican National Committee announced the revised list on Wednesday.
The competition is far from over.
Some Republicans are concerned about unveiling the GOP's next presidential nominee in a place commonly known as "Sin City." Political leaders from competing cities are questioning Las Vegas' image. And they're promoting their own network of billionaire donors as they jockey for any advantage they can find.
Much of the casino industry is unified behind Las Vegas' 2016 bid.
Republican officials plan to make a final decision on the convention site this summer.
