FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a firefighter suffered serious burns to his neck while fighting a brush fire in Florence County.
Investigators said the fire Wednesday afternoon started when a debris fire went out of control in the hot, breezy, dry weather.
Authorities say the fire spread to a mobile home, and a firefighter inside the home suffered second- and third-degree burns to his neck when he fell through the floor while fighting the blaze.
Officials say two other firefighters also received medical attention from injuries suffered while fighting the fire.
The blaze was one of 50 different fires across the state reported Wednesday by the South Carolina Forestry Commission as temperatures soared into the 80s with low humidity.
Another fire burned several homes in a subdivision in Greer.
