Police investigate shot fired at Kent State

KENT, Ohio (AP) — Police are investigating a report of a shot fired at a northeastern Ohio university.

A Kent State University spokeswoman says a male suspect fired a single shot into the ground at about 9 p.m. Wednesday near Bowman Hall, an academic building on the school's main campus.

No injuries were reported.

The university is advising people to shelter in place as police continue to search for the suspect who was reportedly carrying a silver handgun.

Kent State University police are handling the investigation. No other details were immediately available.

Kent State is a public research university located in Kent, Ohio. The university has eight campuses around the northeast Ohio region with the campus in Kent being the largest.
