Vegas welcome sign going blue for autism awareness

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The bulbs on the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign are going blue to shine a spotlight on autism.

Clark County commissioners are expected to attend a ceremony Wednesday afternoon to mark World Autism Awareness Day and the start of Autism Awareness Month.

The color swap is part of the global "Light It Up Blue" initiative spearheaded by the group Autism Speaks.

More than 8,400 structures worldwide are scheduled to go blue for the campaign, including the Empire State Building, Niagara Falls and the Sydney Opera House in Australia.
