WEST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — West Haven officials have denied a permit for what would be one of Connecticut's first medical marijuana dispensaries and have placed a 90-day moratorium on all such businesses in the city.
The Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday night unanimously rejected a permit application by Thomas Macre, who wanted to put a dispensary in a vacant industrial building. The New Haven Register reports (http://bit.ly/1o09g5F ) commission members didn't like the location.
The commission also imposed the moratorium on all medical marijuana dispensaries so local officials can develop regulations on how and where the facilities can operate.
State regulators are expected to issue three to five licenses for medical marijuana dispensaries for the entire state. West Haven already is hosting one of the four state-approved growing operations, which hasn't begun operating yet.
