Man faces life in Ohio football star's slaying

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An Akron man is facing a life prison sentence after being convicted in the killing of a former high school football star during a robbery.

Tony Deon Gray Jr. was convicted of murder and other crimes on Monday in Summit County. He'll face life without possibility of parole for 18 years when he's sentenced Friday.

The Akron Beacon Journal (http://bit.ly/1glEqPL) reports former Ellet High School football star Paris Wicks II was fatally shot behind a store in August when he attempted to help a friend and former teammate who was being robbed at gunpoint.

Gray is the first of four defendants to stand trial in the case. He was not the shooter, but prosecutors convinced jurors that he was complicit in the murder by helping the shooter leave the scene.
