COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Columbus police say an officer shot a man who was armed with a knife in the leg.
Police say 23-year-old Timothy Slaughter was shot about 5 a.m. Saturday. They say officers were responding to a call from a woman who said a man approached her and a friend and reached into his pocket as if he had a weapon. The woman told police she believed the man was trying to rob someone.
Police say Slaughter matched the suspect's description and fled when he saw the officers. They say he was shot by one of the officers during a confrontation.
Police say they recovered two knives at the scene and charged Slaughter with a misdemeanor count if carrying a concealed weapon.
It couldn't be immediately determined whether Slaughter had an attorney.
