Chicago's Cardinal George hospitalized with flu

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Cardinal Francis George has been hospitalized at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood for the last four days suffering dehydration because of the flu.

Spokeswoman Colleen Dolan said Monday the decision to admit George to the hospital Friday was made so that he could receive intravenous fluids and antibiotics. There was also concern because of a new round of chemotherapy he recently started to treat kidney cancer.

Dolan says the decision to hospitalize George was made out of an abundance of caution. She said the 77-year-old George is in "good spirits and feels good," and is expected to be released sometime this week.

George had surgery in 2006 to remove his cancerous bladder, prostate and part of his right ureter and was deemed cancer-free. The cancer returned in 2012
