Central Ohio divers search for missing kayaker

HILLIARD, Ohio (AP) — A search is continuing for the body of a kayaker who disappeared in a central Ohio lake Saturday while trying to rescue a dog.

Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott's office said divers resumed a search Sunday for the body of 21-year-old Kyle Miller at Darby Bend Lakes in the Prairie Oaks Metro Park in Hilliard. He is presumed dead.

The search was suspended Saturday due to deep waters, strong winds and underwater currents. Crews returned with more advanced equipment.

Miller and 19-year-old Austin Gifford were kayaking at the park Saturday when they entered the frigid water to try to save the dog.

Gifford tried to rescue Miller before witnesses pulled him from the water. He was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

The dog did not survive.
