Wyoming Board of Medicine revokes doctor's license

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Board of Medicine has revoked the license of a doctor who performed surgery on a patient who later died from an overdose of painkillers.

The board on Friday released an order revoking the license of Dr. John H. Schneider, Jr.

The board imposed a $25,000 civil fine against Schneider and ordered him to pay over $124,000 to cover the cost of the board proceeding against him.

The board's order states Schneider performed back surgery at West Park Hospital in Cody in November 2011 on a Montana man the board identifies only as John Doe. It says the man later died from a drug overdose.

Attempts to reach Schneider's lawyers were unsuccessful Friday. Schneider had contested the board's action and has denied civil liability in an ongoing federal lawsuit.
