Baby makes unplanned arrival in southbound I-75

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) — A 20-year-old northern Michigan woman says she planned to give birth to her second child at a hospital and not on the shoulder of Interstate 75.

But her rapid labor dictated otherwise, and Katie Pfeiffer delivered in a Ford Windstar minivan, with her 21-year-old husband Dustin and 17-year-old friend Morgan Dame helping out Tuesday morning.

The Saginaw News (http://bit.ly/NYmAXG ) says William Pfeiffer arrived at 7 pounds, 8 ounces and 19.5 inches long. It says he and his mother are doing well.

Katie Pfeiffer says her contractions were irregular at first, so they waited three hours to begin the 65-mile southbound drive to Saginaw's Covenant HealthCare.

But she says her water broke and the baby quickly started crowning. She says they wrapped William in old clothes until an ambulance arrived.
