EWING, N.J. (AP) — Officials are awaiting autopsy results on a woman who was killed after a gas leak and explosion destroyed at least 10 houses and damaged dozens of others at a suburban town house development in Ewing.

The explosion Tuesday afternoon happened after a gas line was damaged by contractors who were digging in the area. Seven workers were injured.

Lt. Ron Lunetta says officials are unable to identify the victim, who was discovered on a car near the explosion site. They also don't know whether she lived at the development.

A majority of the displaced residents aren't expected to be able to go home until Wednesday morning at the earliest. Some are being sheltered at a local fire house, while others stayed overnight with family and friends.
