St. Louis couple gives $2.5 million to MU school

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — A St. Louis couple is committing $2.5 million to the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.

The college said in a news release Monday that Gary Savill and Barbara Stampfli-Savill made the donation despite having no affiliation with the university or veterinary school.

University officials say the couple decided to commit the money after reading about other donors to the veterinary school. They own Silver Wraith Choppers in Ballwin.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1jOblfK ) endowment will provide one or more scholarships to cover 50 percent of all tuition and fees each year to students with financial needs, with preference shown to students from underrepresented ethnic groups. The recipients will be encouraged to do volunteer work.
