COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A federal complaint alleges that a central Ohio man suspected of accidentally killing his 4-year-old son never applied for permanent U.S. residence and used fake identification.
A federal immigration investigator's affidavit says the defendant is from El Salvador and was using a permanent resident card with someone else's registration number.
Authorities say 30-year-old Natividad de Jesus Hernandez accidentally ran over his son with his van in Union County. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty in state court to charges including aggravated vehicular homicide, forgery and stealing from the construction site where the accident happened Dec. 26.
Defense attorney Scott Culbert has denied Hernandez was stealing and vows to fight the charges. Culbert didn't immediately return a call Tuesday about the federal complaint, which identifies the defendant as Natividad De Jesus Hernandez-Morales.
