EXETER, R.I. (AP) — Seventy-five athletes from Rhode Island are expected to take part in this year's Special Olympics winter games.
The organization's 2014 State Winter Games are being held Saturday afternoon at Yawgoo Valley Ski Area in Exeter. The event will feature competition in alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.
Special Olympics Rhode Island puts on over 1,600 year-round sports training and athletic competitions for more than 2,800 athletes.
The Special Olympics summer games are scheduled to be held on May 30 and 31 and June 1 at the University of Rhode Island. They feature aquatics, bowling, cycling, powerlifting and soccer, among other sports.
