LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Workers at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach nicknamed a sea lion Bruce Almighty after the adult male survived lunch with a great white shark. Bruce was supposed to be the main course.
The center announced Tuesday that they'd received a call about a sea lion stranded on rocks at Emerald Bay Beach on Friday. He was rescued and treated for severe shark bite wounds and malnourishment.
Animal Care Supervisor Dean Gomersall says the sea lion has huge bite wound under his right flipper and his left chest area.
Animal Care Director Michelle Hunt says it is rare to see such wounds on a survivor.
Bruce is doing well and will be returned to the ocean when he is healed.
