Police in Calif. detain mother of dead 3-year-old

NAPA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco Bay Area transit police say they have detained a couple wanted for questioning in the death of a 3-year-old girl who was found dead in her bed.

Bay Area Rapid Transit police Lt. Gil Lopez says officers arrested 23-year-old Sara Krueger and her boyfriend, 26-year-old Scott Warner, at a BART station in the city of El Cerrito on Sunday.

Lopez says they were turned over to detectives from the Napa Police Department who had been trying to locate them since the body of Krueger's daughter was discovered on Saturday afternoon.

Napa police Lt. Debbie Peecook says the girl, whom police have not named, showed signs of having been sexually assaulted and blunt force trauma.

Before the pair was taken into custody, they last were seen carrying luggage from the Napa apartment where Krueger and her daughter lived.
