NEW YORK (AP) — Joe Namath understands why more parents these days are reluctant to let their children play football.
He says he can't blame them.
The father of two daughters said he wouldn't want them playing a sport where the object is running into people.
The former New York Jets quarterback has seen his share of injuries, including concussions and knee problems. Still, he feels lucky.
The 70-year old Namath feels if a child really wants to play, parents should at least give them a chance. Especially with many of the new safety precautions instituted from the NFL down to the pee wee leagues.
He made the comments from the red carpet of the 3rd Annual NFL Honors.
