Oregon child dies after medical emergency at YMCA

SHERWOOD, Ore. (AP) — Sherwood police say a child who experienced a medical emergency at the Sherwood Family YMCA has died.

The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/1kvgJ7v ) the child was taken by Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue to the hospital just before noon on Saturday.

Authorities say the child was later pronounced dead.

Sherwood Police Capt. Ty Hanlon said initial reports were that the child was not breathing.

Police have not released the child's name or the cause of death.

The Department of Human Services is handling the case.
