BAYONNE, N.J. (AP) — A cruise ship that cut its voyage short because of an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness is set to sail from New Jersey with heightened surveillance and steps taken to prevent a recurrence.
Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas returned to Bayonne on Wednesday after 630 passengers and 54 crew members were sickened. The ship was carrying 3,050 passengers.
Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not placed any restrictions on the vessel.
But passengers boarding Friday will be asked to consider rescheduling if they have experienced any gastrointestinal symptoms within the last three days. Any guests uncomfortable with taking the cruise can reschedule.
Passengers will also be prevented from serving themselves at buffets to prevent the spread of illness.
