SILT, Colo. (AP) — Authorities have identified three men who were killed when a helicopter being used to survey power lines crashed in western Colorado.
The Garfield County coroner's office said Tuesday that Doug Sheffer, Larry Shaffer and Christopher Gaskill died in the crash. There were no survivors.
Earlier, the sheriff's department identified Sheffer as the pilot.
Holy Cross Energy spokesman Stephen Casey said Shaffer was a longtime employee of the utility company. The role of Gaskill was not immediately clear.
Casey says aerial surveying of lines using infrared cameras to find hot spots is common.
Sheriff's Deputy Walt Stowe says witnesses believe the helicopter snagged a power line before crashing.
