JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Anchorage Sen. Johnny Ellis says he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
In a floor speech Wednesday, Ellis said he underwent treatment and more recent tests showed him to be cancer free.
He said he will continue to have monitoring. But he said he felt lucky and was grateful to have health insurance. He reiterated his concern for Alaskans who don't have coverage.
He said he hoped others might be helped by his speaking out.
Senate minority spokesman Myer Hutchinson says Ellis was diagnosed late last summer and treated in early fall.
