Report: NV hospital shooter wanted murder-suicide

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — An 88-year-old man who shot his wife at a Carson City hospital reportedly told police he was trying to carry out a murder-suicide because his wife was paralyzed and wanted to die.

An arrest report says William Dresser told officers he brought two bullets for himself and two for his wife, but his gun jammed after he shot the woman once in the chest Sunday.

Dresser was arrested after the incident about 11:30 a.m. at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says Dresser's wife is still alive but suffered a "very serious" gunshot wound.

Furlong says the incident has severely traumatized the staff at the hospital. It comes about a month after a shooting at a Reno urology office left a doctor and the gunman dead.
