WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a driver crossed onto the wrong side of the eastern Ohio roadway she was driving on and struck an SUV, killing three of the nine people inside.
Ohio Highway Patrol Staff Lt. Anne Ralston says 39-year-old James Nign, his 27-year-old wife, Meghann Nign, and 11-year-old Addisyn Benzel were killed in the accident at about 11 a.m. Sunday on state route 518 in Columbiana County. Six other children in the car were taken to area hospitals.
Ralston says 31-year-old Rachel Lindesmith, of Hanoverton, was driving eastbound when she crossed over to the wrong side of the roadway. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, along with her 9-month-old son. The condition of the other children wasn't known.
Ralston says an investigation is ongoing and Lindesmith has not been charged.
