Yankton restaurant fails 2 health inspections

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — A Yankton restaurant is in trouble with the state after failing two health inspections.

The Daily Press & Dakotan newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1ctNStU ) that JoDean's had two critical violations during an inspection last September and five critical violations during a follow-up inspection in December. The alleged violations included mishandled meat.

State Health Department official Bill Chalcraft says the restaurant's owner likely will get a hearing before an administrative law judge.

Owner Jack Nielsen says the failed inspections came as a shock to him and his employees. He says steps have been taken to correct the problems. Nielsen says he's been in business for 40 years, and his previous three inspections found no critical violations.
