Police: Stray bullet killed 5-year-old Omaha girl

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a stray bullet that killed a 5-year-old girl as she ate breakfast in her Omaha home may have come from as far as a block away.

Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said at a news conference Wednesday night that Payton Benson did not appear to be the intended target of the bullet. He said it came from a shooting at an address that's a block from the girl's home. That shooting involved numerous gunshots from multiple weapons.

No arrests have been reported. But police say they have located a vehicle that they believe is connected to the shooting. They are asking the public for help in finding three male suspects seen with the car.
