Secret video of China Nobel's wife screens in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) — Never-before-seen footage of the detained wife of a Chinese Nobel Peace laureate has been screened in New York City.

Officials with the Independent Chinese PEN Center showed video Tuesday they said was taken in December of poet Liu Xia (lee-OO' SHA'). The video shows Liu reading two poems into a camera held by an unknown person.

Liu Xia is the wife of activist Liu Xiaobo (lee-OO' show-BOH'), who won the peace prize in 2010 a year after being convicted of subversion. The Chinese government denounced the award.

Liu Xia has been confined to her Beijing apartment for more than three years. Her supporters have said she suffers from depression and that she's demanded a normal life. She's asked to see her own doctor and read her husband's letters from prison.
