CINCINNATI (AP) — An Ohio man has pleaded not guilty to reckless homicide in the fatal shooting of his 11-year-old daughter, as his family claimed the girl's death was an accident.
Kelley entered the plea Monday at a hearing in Cincinnati's Hamilton County court. His attorney declined to comment.
Judge Melissa Powers ordered Kelley held on a $500,000 bond.
The 34-year-old Kelley turned himself into police on Sunday in the shooting death of 11-year-old Shanti Lanza early that morning at her Cincinnati home.
His brother, Antwon Kelley, told The Associated Press that Deandre would never have shot the girl on purpose and that he was shaken up over her death.
He described Deandre as a family man and loving father of seven who lost his teenage son last year in a still-unsolved shooting.
