Suspects in fatal NJ mall carjacking due in court

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Four men are due in court to face charges in the fatal carjacking of a man at a northern New Jersey mall.

Authorities say the men were involved in a Dec. 15 carjacking at The Mall at Short Hills, where a 30-year-old lawyer from Hoboken was fatally shot as he returned with his wife to their vehicle.

Hanif Thompson of Irvington, and Newark residents Karif Ford, Basim Henry and Kevin Roberts have been in custody since their arrests.

Each faces charges of murder, felony murder, carjacking, conspiracy, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.

It is not immediately clear who will represent them at their arraignments on Wednesday.

Prosecutors have said the couple was targeted because of the make of their vehicle, a Range Rover.
