PHOENIX (AP) — Police say a fired strip club employee who hoped to rob his former employer of up to half a million dollars orchestrated a brazen New Year's Eve robbery that led to the shootings of a Phoenix police officer and a member of the Maricopa County sheriff's volunteer posse.
Three people have been arrested in the case and authorities are searching for a fourth suspect. The officer and a wounded man who came to help in the arrest remain hospitalized in critical condition.
Police say the former employee of the Pink Rhino Cabaret was fired around Christmas and enlisted the others in the plot. Authorities say the plan was scrapped when a crowd was spotted outside the club and the men instead followed and robbed two employees of $18,000.
