Polish composer of movie music laid to rest

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland's First Lady Anna Komorowska and the culture minister are attending the state funeral of pianist and composer Wojciech Kilar, who wrote classical music and scores for many films, including Roman Polanski's Oscar-winning "The Pianist" and Francis Ford Coppola's "Bram Stoker's Dracula."

The 81-year-old Kilar died of cancer on Sunday in his southern hometown of Katowice.

The funeral ceremonies at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Katowice drew musicians and hundreds of fans of Kilar's music.

The dark stone urn with Kilar's ashes will be placed in the grave of his wife of over 40 years, Barbara, who died in 2007.
