ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Health officials say two adult Alaskans died from the flu in the past week.
According to the Department of Health and Social Services, the deaths mark the first reported deaths during Alaska's 2013-2014 influenza season.
The agency did not disclose the names, ages and hometowns of the Alaskans who died.
The Anchorage Daily News reports (http://is.gd/hHGYGY ) that new rules requiring health care facilities to report adult flu deaths to the state took effect in late December. Before, the state only tracked deaths among children.
