Fire sweeps through downtown Toledo church

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A fire swept through a church in northern Ohio as firefighters battled both the flames and the cold.

The fire on Friday afternoon destroyed the St. Mark's Baptist Church in central Toledo.

Fire officials say the building was consumed by flames when they arrived.

No injuries were reported.

The Blade newspaper in Toledo says the church was founded in 1955 by Pastor I.J. Johnson who is still the senior pastor there.
