SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Health officials say two Salt Lake County residents have died of the flu in the first Utah casualties from the illness so far this season.
Authorities from the Salt Lake County Health Department say the victims were between the ages of 35 and 64.
County epidemiologist Ilene Risk says the deaths are a tragic reminder that the flu can kill. She recommends everyone over the age of six months get a shot each year to stay healthy and prevent spreading the virus to others.
Health officials say they've also counted 150 people who have been hospitalized with the flu in the county. Most of them have the H1N1 virus.
Doctors expect to see even more flu cases in coming weeks after people have spent time with family over the holidays.
