DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A southwest Ohio city says a former clerical employee at its law department is under criminal investigation for alleged theft in office.
A statement from Dayton City Manager Tim Riordan says the theft of city funds was found in early December after an internal review. He says the unidentified employee was quickly put on unpaid administrative leave and subsequently was fired.
The city didn't immediately disclose the amount allegedly stolen or any other details. Riordan says officials didn't want to jeopardize the ongoing criminal investigation being handled by local police.
Riordan says Dayton will do its best to recover any missing funds and will institute new procedures in an effort to prevent such abuse.
