VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) — River Region Health System has been given state approval to build a new medical office building.
The Mississippi State Department of Health issued a certificate of need for the project Thursday. Mississippi requires a CON in a process designed to avoid duplication of health care services and control costs.
The 223-bed Vicksburg hospital is owned by Community Health Systems, based in Brentwood, Tenn. Health Department documents say an affiliate of an Indiana company would build the structure and River Region would lease it.
The 67,000-square foot building would cost $13.2 million. Doctors' offices and outpatient therapy services that are now located several miles from the hospital would be moved there. The hospital also plans to install a second MRI machine in the building.
