Evacuations in effect near TN industrial fire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Evacuation orders remain in effect for hundreds of central Tennessee residents who live near a federal Superfund site where a large industrial fire is still burning Thursday.

Firefighters stopped trying to put out the blaze Wednesday, partly because of fears that two 1,000-gallon propane tanks there could explode. They're waiting for the fire to burn itself out.

Kim Skelton in the Hickman County mayor's office says the fire at Industrial Plastics Recycle started at about 10 a.m. Wednesday and that surrounding homes, schools and businesses were evacuated.

Tennessee Emergency Management Agency spokesman Dean Flener says that between 400 and 500 people were asked to leave the area, about 45 miles southwest of Nashville.
