PHOENIX (AP) — Approximately 2,200 people have reasons to smile after getting free dental care during a weekend clinic at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix.
The Arizona Republic (http://bit.ly/1bUfoV5) reports that the event featured free work performed by 300 dentists as well as 1,200 hygienists, support staff and other volunteers.
The 12,000 procedures performed include tooth extractions, fillings, foot canals and cleanings.
Patients at the clinic included not only the uninsured, but also the underinsured.
Many of those served hadn't been to a dentist for decades, and some were in desperate need of relief from pain.
