Ohio governor to speak at Cincinnati commencement

CINCINNATI (AP) — Ohio's governor is the featured speaker for the University of Cincinnati's December commencement.

Republican Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) was scheduled to take part in ceremonies beginning Saturday morning in the campus arena. UC president Santa Ono (OH'-noh) was slated to lead the event.

More than 2,000 students are receiving their degrees.

Among those receiving honorary degrees will be wildlife artist and author John Ruthven and the Rev. Michael Graham, president of Xavier University. The reasons UC cites for Graham's honor include his active efforts to better the community.

Later Saturday, men's basketball rivals Xavier and Cincinnati were scheduled to play their annual "Crosstown Classic" game in downtown Cincinnati.
